Mala Beads
A mala is a sanskrit word that means garland. This sacred string of beads represents 108 prayers, mantras or affirmations. The number 108 is considered the number of the wholeness of existence. A deeply sacred number in Hinduism and Buddhism, it connects the sun, moon and earth. The additional charm is considered the ‘guru bead’. When you use the beads, close your eyes, chant your prayer as you follow the beads one by one, passing them between your middle finger and your thumb. When you reach the guru bead, take a moment to connect to the energy of the teacher - the teachers who have gone before you and the teacher within.
